I've been contacted over the years to help with dogs who are destructive, bark excessively, dig up the back yard, and other behavioral problems.  Training and behavior modification certainly helps the dog switch to appropriate behaviors.  Sometimes, when fact-gathering, I learn the dog has no daily exercise!  A Big Yard Is Not Exercise.  We can train and train, but if you have an active breed or mix, there's no getting around the fact that your dog requires daily activity for physical and mental health.  There are awesome dog walkers in the South Bay if you need to enlist their services.  One is Jon at Tails Gone Wild, www.tailsgonewild.com.  This Spring, make a promise to your dog that you'll meet his or her exercise needs, and help yourself meet your exercise goals by getting out there and walking with your dog, joining an Agility club, having "walking dates" with friends, or any other form of exercise.  There are plenty of books to help you with suggestions; my favorite dog-book site is www.dogwise.com.  So train, play with, and exercise your dog!

DOGS AND PUPPIES OF ALL AGES AND ALL BREEDS BENEFIT GREATLY FROM TRAINING.

Is your dog barking excessively, pulling on leash, stressed when you're gone, running out the door, jumping up on people, chewing everything in sight, no yet housetrained, in need of basic manners?

Let Canine Coach Help!

We'll design a custom program addressing your training needs and working with your schedule.  Day Training available for those who need in-home training when you're at work or on vacation.  Dog Training for Busy People!   We train with positive, gentle, science-based techniques that you'll learn too, and use those skills for the rest of your dog-owning life.  Learn how to read your dog's body language and, and how to most effectively communicate with him or her. Enjoy this new year by starting out on a dog training program that will enhance the bond you have with your dog.

As one of the first members of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers), watching it grow over the years from a room in Northern California to all over the world, I highly recommend starting your trainer search on their website if you don't live in Southern California's South Bay.  Dr. Ian Dunbar's brainchild organization is here to help people find trainers who follow science-based techniques that are fun and friendly.  Just go to www.apdt.com, click on the Trainer Search, then type in your zip code.  A list of trainers in your area will appear.  My recommendation is to call 3 to 5 (or more!) trainers before deciding who to work with.  Some teach group classes, some do only in-home, and some do both, as well as dog sports like Agility and other awesome human/dog activities.

UPDATE ON JIMMY

Thanks to the loving efforts of Jane and everyone at Sue Sternberg's Adoption Facility in New York, little Jimmy's found his forever home, with two other dogs to live in paradise with!

  • Why Train?

- You can't take your dog on a walk without being pulled, and hearing comments like "who's walking whom"?

- You worry every time someone knocks at the door because your dog barks incessantly, may bite the visitor or run out the door.

- Your dog suffers from separation anxiety.

-Your new puppy is wonderful, but housetraining is going slowly; rubbing his nose in his accidents just isn't working.

- Your puppy doesn't seem to get that her sharp little teeth really do hurt, and the kids are getting a bit afraid of her.

-It's hard to leave the house, worrying that you'll find who-knows-what deposited on your carpet, or something of yours will be chewed beyond recognition.

-Your dog's behavior has recently changed, and you don't know why.

-You've seen a really well-trained dog out enjoying life with his family, and you'd like to start training your dog to be a good canine citizen and respond to your commands, too.

There's nothing like training to bring out the best in your dog, and create the strongest bond possible between dog and human. ___________________________________
